The world recently learned that Travis Kelce, star tight end of the Kansas City Chiefs, harbors a rather unorthodox dream: he wants to rescue a wild otter and become its personal hero. (Yes, you read that right... move over, puppies and kittens, there’s a new MVP in town!)
Honestly, that story might surprise others, but not the Blue Hills Ranch crew. We see every day how special the bond with an otter can be, and we otterly want to make this dream come true. (warning: expect a couple more puns)
So, Travis (and anyone else who loves otters as much as we do), listen up: this is your open invitation to meet some very special otters and maybe become the hero of your own otter love story.

Meet Our Mischievous Otters
At Blue Hills Ranch, the otter experience is more than just sightseeing. It’s a splash-filled, exciting adventure.
We currently care for ten Asian small-clawed otters, each with vibrant personalities and endless charm.
Among them are the original four, affectionately called the Fish‑Eating Crew: Otto, Sweet Pea, Butters, and Cartman.
Otto and Sweet Pea have especially become fan favorites. They are curious, energetic, and wonderful ambassadors of otter charm.
Swimming with Otters
Travis doesn’t want to take an otter from the wild – he wants to earn an otter’s trust through an act of heroism. As Taylor jokingly explained, Travis envisions finding an otter with its “paw caught on a shell”, freeing it, and that otter being grateful to him forever. (Honestly, who can blame him? Isn’t that basically every animal lover’s dream, to have a furry friend look at you like you hung the moon?)
This whole scenario is wholesome and oddly specific. And we love it.
And Travis, if you’re reading this, you should know that around here you’re not alone. In fact, the otter-saving bug is something we understand entirely. Blue Hills Ranch was founded on rescuing and caring for animals of all shapes and sizes, from orphaned giraffes to wayward wallabies.
Our otters themselves came to us in need of a good home. They’ve thrived here, and in return, they shower us (sometimes literally) with endless affection and laughter. Sometimes that with nibbles. Sometimes pick-pocketing but always out of love.
We started thinking: maybe we can help make this happen. We might not have wild otters in need of saving on cue, but we do have some lovable rascals who are always up for an adventure.
Which leads us to…
Are you ready to conquer an otter swim?
Here at Blue Hills Ranch in McGregor, Texas, we specialize in creating unforgettable animal encounters. In fact, our otters already think every day is a mini rescue mission (mostly because they’re constantly “losing” their toys or getting into funny predicaments that require a helping human hand). If you’re looking to live out your otter-saving fantasy, we’ve got you covered in the most fun way possible.
For starters, our otters have a private paradise that’s practically a little otter kingdom. They’ve got a spacious play area – complete with a bubbling mini hot tub just for them to lounge in. (Yes, our otters have their own jacuzzi. They live the life!)
When visitors come for our Swim with Otters experience, we suit them up and let them hop into this otter-sized pool party. Now, picture this: suddenly you spot an otter, poking his little nose out and blinking up as if to say, “Help, I appear to be wedged under this rubber duck, sir!” This is your cue, hero. You gently lift the duck, freeing our drama-king otter, and voila – you’ve saved the day!
I mean, you never know, right?
Trust us, in that moment, you’ll feel like Prince Charming. Again.
Every interaction with these otters feels meaningful because they are so inquisitive and responsive. They’ll climb on your arms, tug at your shoulders, and look you right in the eyes with that playful gleam that says, “Come on, let’s play!” By the time you step out of the pool, you might just wonder who saved who – because these little ones have a way of rescuing our hearts on the daily.
Now, you might be thinking, “This sounds fun and all, but it’s not exactly a wild otter rescue.” True – our otters are in a safe, loving environment already. But the bond you’ll form by interacting with them can be just as profound. The first time an otter decides to trust you – whether it’s curling up in your lap or bringing you one of its toys as a “gift” – you feel a connection that’s hard to put into words. It’s a mix of joy, awe, and pure childlike wonder. We see grown adults giggle like kids when an otter starts squeaking or when two otters cuddle up to them like they’re part of a raft.
Beyond the cuteness overload, there’s a genuinely heartfelt side to all this. Many of our animals came to us because they needed help – whether they were orphaned, injured, or simply without a safe place to go. In a way, every encounter here is about second chances and kindness. When you (or any visitor) connect with our animals, you become part of their story of rescue and care. We have no doubt that if you swoop in to share some love with our otter crew, they’ll form a bond with you that’s almost as real as if you’d pulled them out of a river yourself. Animals have incredible instincts about people; they seem to know when someone has a big heart.
Your Move – The Otters Are Waiting!
Consider this an official, playfully serious invitation to Blue Hills Ranch. Come on down to Texas, swim with our otters, and experience the joy of being an otter’s hero for a day. We promise it’ll be an adventure worthy of a touchdown dance celebration. You’ll get to swim, play, and rescue (in small, heartwarming ways) alongside ten of the most charming otters you could ever meet.
And hey, feel free to bring along anyone you want to share the fun with... after all, otter adventures are best enjoyed with good company. Whether you come solo or with a whole entourage, we guarantee you’ll leave with unforgettable memories, dozens of adorable photos, and probably a soggy shirt courtesy of an overzealous otter hug.
The ball’s in your court. Our playful pups are always prepared for your visit. So grab your swim trunks and that champion’s spirit, and get ready to live out your wildest otter dreams here at Blue Hills Ranch.
Hope to see you soon for an otterly amazing time!
