Meet The Blue Hills Ranch
Volunteer Team

Mark Thomas

Mark lives in Southern California and is a very special volunteer at Blue Hills Ranch.  He travels to the ranch several times a year (a 24-hour drive, straight-through!) to help out on the property and take care of the rescue animals. Mark has spent over 30 years as an active volunteer and philanthropist for multiple charities, and when his daughter Lisa asked him if he wanted to volunteer at an animal sanctuary her friend Matt started in McGregor, Texas... He jumped on the chance to give back once again. Mark keeps us in line! His background in logistics and business management are essential for completing projects on-site, prepping cabins, the events barn, the animal homes and helping out the property team. But Mark's favorite activity is taking care of the animals, especially the otters Otto and Sweet Pea whom he helped rescue. "The animals are treated very well and truly enjoy the human contact, which is why I continue to come back to the ranch and be part of the group. Just a very fun and exciting place to volunteer!"

Lisa Thomas

Lisa lives in Southern California and spends one week a month driving to the ranch to help out with her Dad, Mark Sr.  From day one, Lisa's Dad taught her to give back, take care of others before herself and find the right non-profit organizations to which she should dedicate her time. Well, Blue Hills Ranch made the list at #1! Lisa is a Biochemist and Sports Nutrition specialist in "real" life but dedicates her extra time at the ranch to doing whatever is needed (climb in a silo to raise it, build a rocking chair, feed a giraffe or kangaroo at 4am, anything.) But her favorite activity is spending time with the Asian small-clawed otters Otto and Sweet Pea whom her Dad and she rescued and donated to the sanctuary. "Blue Hills is a beautiful place where I am so honored to belong as a volunteer and share this with my Dad. I feel proud and very privileged to be a part of caring for and freeing our animals. Please join us! It's an amazing opportunity to give back."

If you are interested in becoming a volunteer, please submit an application.
